Currently many government agencies, engineering firms, telecommunications providers and natural resource exploration companies use DEMs as part of their everyday planning and decision making process. While many organizations are rely on the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) dataset, many find this dataset inadequate for their needs due to missing areas of data, and the fact that it does not cover areas above 60 degrees north.
